Roller operating procedures Roller rolling skills

Roller operating procedures

1. When operating, the roller should start before vibrating, and the internal combustion engine should be at medium speed first, and then modulated to high speed.
2. The roller should be stopped first when changing speed and reversing, and the internal combustion engine speed should be reduced when changing speed.
3. It is strictly forbidden for the roller to vibrate on solid ground.
4. When rolling soft roadbed, it should be rolled 1~2 times without vibration, and then vibrated and rolled.
5. The vibration frequency should be kept consistent during rolling. For adjustable vibratory rollers, the vibration frequency should be adjusted before operation, and the vibration frequency should not be adjusted without vibration.
6. The adjustment of the reversing clutch, the vibration clutch and the brake should be carried out after the main clutch is disengaged.
7. When going up and downhill, fast gears shall not be used. When making sharp turns, including when the articulated vibratory roller rolls in small turns and circles, it is strictly forbidden to use fast gears.
8. The roller must not engage vibration when driving at high speed.
9. When stopping, the vibration should be stopped first, then the reversing mechanism should be placed in the middle position, the transmission should be placed in neutral, and finally the hand brake lever should be pulled up. The internal combustion engine should run at the total speed for several minutes before shutting down.
10. Other operating requirements should comply with the regulations of static rollers.

Roller rolling skills

① Whether it is uphill or downhill, the bottom layer of the asphalt mixture must be clean and dry, and the asphalt bonding layer must be sprayed to prevent the mixture from slipping during rolling

② Whether it is rolling uphill or downhill, the driving wheels of the roller should be at the back. This has the following advantages: when going uphill, the rear driving wheels can withstand the driving force provided by the ramp and the machine itself, and at the same time the front wheels perform preliminary compaction on the road surface to withstand the large shear force generated by the driving wheels;

when going downhill, the impact force generated by the roller’s own weight is offset by the braking of the driving wheels, and only the mixture rolled by the front wheels has the ability to support the shear force generated by the rear driving wheels.

③ When rolling uphill, the roller should start, stop and accelerate smoothly to avoid too high or too low speed.
④ Before rolling uphill, the mixture should be cooled to the specified lower limit temperature, and then static pre-compacting should be carried out. When the temperature of the mixture drops to the lower limit (120℃), vibration compaction should be used.
⑤ When rolling downhill, sudden speed changes and braking should be avoided.
⑥ When rolling downhill with a very steep slope, a light roller should be used for pre-compacting first, and then a heavy roller or vibratory roller should be used for compaction.
