1. Selection of work quality (tonnage):
Determine the roller with corresponding work quality according to the work requirements in order to achieve the best economic benefits. For narrow area operations or small area repair and compaction operations, a walk-behind roller with a tonnage of 0.5-1 ton can be selected;
For high-speed roads or county asphalt roads with large workload, high work efficiency and compaction effect requirements, and a spacious working environment, large double steel wheels should be selected with a tonnage between 8-14 tons, otherwise small double steel wheels can be selected with a tonnage between 2-7 tons;
For the compaction of general road foundations, a single steel wheel roller or static roller with a tonnage between 3-26 tons can be selected according to the compaction effect requirements; for the rolling of asphalt roads, combined rollers have better effects, and different tonnages can be selected according to the road grade.
2. Selection of drive mode:
For the drive mode of self-propelled rollers, there are two modes: mechanical drive and hydraulic drive.
Mechanical rollers are usually single-drive, while hydraulic rollers can be single-drive or dual-drive. Mechanical rollers and fully hydraulic rollers each have their own advantages, and can be selected according to actual use needs.
Mechanical advantages: relatively cheap price, simple maintenance, high transmission efficiency
Full hydraulic advantages: simple structure, easy operation, greater driving force, more convenient speed and frequency regulation
3. Choice of vibration mode
For single steel wheel rollers, it is generally a single wheel single frequency double amplitude vibration; for large tonnage double steel wheel rollers, it is generally a dual drive double vibration double frequency double amplitude form, one of the steel wheel vibration forms can be an oscillation form; for small tonnage double steel wheel rollers, you can choose dual drive double vibration, dual drive single vibration, single drive single vibration and other configurations

Types and structures
Vibratory roller: It uses the vibration force generated by the roller for compaction, which is suitable for most roadbed soils, sand, stone chips, etc. It has high working efficiency and is suitable for hard and dense soil.
High-speed hydraulic compactor: The hydraulic system drives the rammer to perform high-speed impact, which is suitable for soft and loose soil, especially clay and soft soil.
Impact roller (plum blossom roller): Combining vibration and impact, it is suitable for high-moisture, soft and loose soil, especially for clay, wetlands, sand and other soils that are prone to settlement.

Vibratory roller: Suitable for most roadbed soils, sand, stone chips, etc., with high working efficiency, suitable for hard and dense soil, but poor effect on wet and soft soil
High-speed hydraulic compactor: Suitable for wet and soft, loose soil, especially clay and wet and soft soil, can deeply compact the soil, but poor effect on hard soil
Impact roller: Suitable for high-moisture, wet and soft, loose soil, can provide strong impact force, and achieve deep compaction effect through repeated vibration, suitable for clay, wetland, sand
